Eye testing has come a long way since the traditional charts and lenses. The advent of technology has led to the development of computerized eye testing, which made the process of eye examination quicker.
Is computerized eye testing always accurate?
Computerized eye testing can predict the power of the eye accurately, but computerized eye testing is not based on Artificial intelligence and does not have the capability of thinking about what is ideal for a particular patient according to the needs and presenting condition of the patient. The power which is given by computerized eye testing might not be ideal for your eyes. As computerized eye testing is based on the optical ray principle which creates a prescription of an eye, the eye is one of the complex structures of the human body where eye power cannot accurately predict by computerized eye testing, particularly not in children and young, who’s crystalline lens has the ability to change shape, which can alter with the optical principle of computerized eye testing giving a false result and always a decision about which power will be ideal for you is made by an optometrist.
How optometrist eye testing is different from computerized eye test?
Yes I know you must be thinking when your go for an eye examination, your optometrist always performs computerized eye testing. But, the power which is given by computerized eye testing is not the final power which is prescribed to you, this computerized power may be the starting point or approximate point for your optometrist so that your optometrist can perform eye testing quicker, as the traditional method takes little bit more time to compare to this. It does not mean optometrists do not use traditional methods to be sure about your eye prescription. Your eye power is finalized by performing a series of tests, which make sure that the power which is given to you is the ideal one.
Next time does not get tempted by the word “computerized eye testing available”. It’s not a computer that decides your prescription it’s an optometrist behind that computer along with his knowledge, experience and decision-making. Remember a good optometrist can give an ideal prescription for your eyes without performing computerized eye testing but the computer can not give an accurate prescription for your eye without an optometrist. So look for an optometrist not for computerized eye testing while you seek eye care.
